The Email Stats You Want to See

Are you sending your customers marketing emails on a regular basis? If so, how do you know they’re performing well? Consistent engagement? Good. Producing revenue? Great. However, we have a few metrics for you that will allow you to really track the performance of your email strategy. At Milked Media, we love combining creative strategy with real data to back it up. So, take a look at how we determine if an email program is fully optimized.

Overall, email should make up at least 25% of your brand’s total revenue. We find that when best leveraged, email marketing should have an ROI of at least $36 for every $1 spent. That’s a higher return than any other form of marketing, digital or otherwise–aka,  it could be a game changer for your brand. One of our clients saw a 392% increase in revenue from email alone! In order to produce these kinds of results, we suggest aiming for the following stats from your email campaigns:

Open Rate - 20% or greater

Click Rate - 2% or greater

Bounce Rate - 0.5% or less

Unsubscribe Rate - 0.3% or less

Spam Rate - 0.8% or less

Flows should have similar results for each category, with the exception of the Welcome Series. We find a top performing Welcome Series will often have an Open Rate of at least 40%, and a Click Rate of at least 4%. The abandonment flows should also see higher results than the stats of a typical campaign.

If your open rates are lacking, try A/B testing new subject lines. Click rates falling short? Test out some different layouts, content or imagery. And don’t forget to segment according to best practices! Too many blanket sends can land your brand’s emails in users’ “Promotions” inbox, or even worse….Spam.

Have you jump started your brand’s email messaging? Or still wondering where to start? Regardless of where you might be in the process, Milked Media can help you reach your goals.
